Too Darn Hot
Jan. 21st, 2008 04:39 pmWho dragged the Auckland summer down here? Can't wait for the looming tropical storm (Cyclone Fume's remnants) to break. Some of us went out for Szechuan food last night and, honestly, it was too hot for it.
Today I saw the cutest animal I've ever seen that wasn't a kitten - a two-day-old baby alpaca with "tuxedo" coloring. It was asleep, and I was able to pet it.
In today's weighty heat, I checked up on those pickles. Pickling had occurred. A sample pickle was half-sour - and way, way too salty. I can't even compost these because the salt will give them an extended half-life. Batch II tomorrow, all going well. In the meantime, everything tastes salty.
