Yet another wee-hours car incident - this time my car got broken into. For the sake of my gym bag on the back seat. Goodbye, bag, goodbye new nonreactive aluminum water bottle, and good riddance to the sweat-soaked gym outfit I was tired of anyway. I will find out on Tuesday how bad the car repair will be - I've got a feeling it will be just a hair over my insurance deductible. At least the window glass wasn't broken (describing what was done would bore you.)

I spent the day twitchy, occasionally tearful, and dealing with neighbors coming over and saying they had heard my car alarm at 5 AM. An elderly housesitter nearby actually witnessed the incident after hearing noises around her car - well enough that we were able to file an exceptionally complete police report.

Cranky and lonely, I wished I had a family worth the name, and contemplated Banana Yoshimoto's writing. Her stories are all about frail women, buffeted by grief and difficulties - losing their relatives and homes, losing their memory, jobs ending with a letter, boyfriends dying in freak accidents - pulling themselves together, pulling up their Japanese schoolgirl socks, and getting on with life. How I empathized with all her characters today.

A neighbor and I also investigated my garage for its car-storage possibilities. The garage door works - barely. It's not very encouraging for storing the car in there, but it'll do as a woodshed.
