Sophisticated Cough Syrup
Dec. 11th, 2009 07:27 pmToday, I took cough syrup as an adult for the first time. The pharmacist recommended a curious brand I'd never seen in the States, and I took it home to try.
With this cough syrup, someone took the opposite approach to Buckley's and said, "Who has the culinary skill to make a cough syrup truly taste good? I know! The French!"
The French have tried their best. Their cough syrup is a clear, thick liquid with ingredients I recognize from actual confectionery (malitol, cherry flavor, chocolate flavor). Unfortunately the end result is not as luscious as a macaron. It still tumbles into the uncanny valley between "medicine" and "candy," with the note of chocolate making it a confusing taste experience.
