Start Planning Now
Feb. 24th, 2003 10:33 pmThe Two Towers movie has won a British film award, a BAFTA, for its costumes. Much rejoicing from the costume fan here, especially considering that some of the most anticipated costumes from promotional shots didn't even make it into the movie.
Only ten months left! It's not too late to start planning a costume for "Return of the King." As much as I'd like to dress as Shelob for the "Return of the King" premiere, the costume I picture isn't exactly practical. Based on the book descriptions of Shelob, I visualise several overstuffed black plastic garbage bags to give me that womanly spider thorax and abdomen, and some false arms, plus a latex mask, followed by a romp through a nuclear waste dump for Shelob's glowing-slimy-belly effect. I don't think my fetish-vixen-spider idea is accurate, either.
So my ROTK costume, if I get into the sewing class I want, will probably be another elf gown variation, unless we get some good hobbit pictures. I am considering this Eowyn gown, but overall, Arwen gets to show more cleavage. For budget reasons, it's 90% likely that any ROTK costume of mine will be made of the 5 1/2 meters of sage green velvet I already have. It would be sensible to just wear last year's outfit again, but when was costuming for fun ever sensible?
