Snow At Last

I woke up this morning, somewhat sulky. It was Monday; I have a coldlet; and I knew there wouldn't be snow on the ground outside my house, despite the promises of the meteorologists and my recurring snow dreams. My car had slush on it, but no snow. Of course not; it's too wet. But then! The hills! The hills ringing my valley had a visible dusting of the white stuff!

Snow on the hills of Stokes Valley!

Not very impressive, but it's the first time since 1952.

The streets were peppered with locals holding up their own cameras, immortalizing the moment.

Snow

Is it really the first time the Stokes Valley hills have had snow since 1952? Because it's snowed in Wellington (at least as low down as Johnsonville) at least twice in my lifetime. And I'm not that old. (I'd have expected the hills around Stokes Valley to get snow at least as easily as Johnsonville's valley.)

PS: And of course it snows on the Rimutakas, etc, every winter, which is much higher.

That's what one of my cranky old neighbors told me. And he had a photo of the 1952 snow. Maybe he slept through the other snow?

That looks like such a nice little neighborhood! Very pretty.

The white stuff makes the hills look so PRETTY! Are you sure you're not in Colorado? ;-D

Seeing as how it's the first time I've seen the pretty white stuff here, yes, I'm sure!

Woo-hoo!

I remember what a big deal it was when it snowed in Wanganui back in the mid-70s. Exciting!
