Came into work this morning to an email from our CEO, encouraging us to take the time to watch the inauguration on TV or listen to it on radio if it was happening during work hours. Aw! On the drive into work, the inauguration was the top radio news item, and it's on the front page of all the papers, as you'd expect. Local headline: Joy For Americans.

Interesting piece on Obama advisors who have, like Obama, spent time as expatriates.

Michelle Obama's ball gown is causing some perplexitude. I'm almost wondering if the very textured fabric isn't a nod to Pacific Islands/Hawai'ian fabrics? With Obama's Hawai'ian connection? I'm not able to find any images of textured Hawai'ian fabrics but Maori cloaks and weavings are pretty tufty and clothes "evoking" this often use a three-dimensional/tagged/beaded fabric.
