Zombies Made Me Cry

Oh, this zombie meme…I’d like to play, except there’s some real world facts taking the wind out of my sails. When I was doing research to make decisions for my will, I found out that 80% of dead people in the Wellington area get cremated, and of course you can't have zombies if you don't have corpses. Why the cremation? We’re seriously short on cemetery land here. Plus, the 5 cemeteries we do have are either tiny or in easily barricadeable valleys. If you are looking for a vacation without those pesky zombies, now you know where to go.

Besides which, from New Zealand, I witnessed both 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, as an American expat. And this experience, of "My God - my homeland is suffering while I sit here in unruffled peace!" has evidently left a mark on my psyche, because I nearly burst into tears reading a response to my tiptoeing into this meme in somebody else's comment thread.
