Must Have Been The Trade Winds
Jul. 13th, 2003 03:47 pmWas down at the marina again today; someone called to get me permission to look at a specific boat. It was a fantastic boat and is The Boat for The Story. This particular boat realtor showing me around used to sail hither and yon, and completed a world circumnavigation. He had this story to tell. I must explain that knives are standard boat equipment for all the ropes.
"People being strange on boats? One time, I went from here to Europe. There were eight of us on the boat. People would join and then leave, you know. A bunch of the guys stayed in America - married Yankee girls! In Europe, we picked up this guy in France. One night, we're along the coast of Portugal. Beautiful night. The trade winds were perfect. And this French guy says to me, "Come here, and bring a knife!" So I get a knife and I go. "What is it?" I asked. He said, "I want you to kill me, because tonight is so perfect." Of course, I didn't, and he was off at the next port. Crazy guy."
