Site Update
Apr. 10th, 2003 09:52 pmIt’s the site anniversary for Ansereg a month and a half late. And this is OK because it just makes the birthday spanking longer!
The story The Sting and the essay Haldir By the Book are now online, there’s a new Nonfiction page, and the long Elrond story is now complete. It’s broken down into a prologue and Parts 1, 2, and 3.
The prologue is a genfic Elrond story, Starlight, about his youth in the camp of the Sons of Feanor. Other characters include Erestor, Maglor, Maedhros, and a sprinkling of original characters to round out the setting.
And, related to that, a BDSM slash ansereg story, featuring Elrond, Thrice for Honour. Elros, Erestor, Maedhros, and the originals appear once more in Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. This story is NC-17 with warnings for BDSM, slash, graphic sex, and an extra warning on Part 3. It’s one of my ansereg AU stories, in which Elrond takes the first steps on the path that brings us to the elf-man we see in my later story Birch and Thorn. Did I mention the BDSM? It’s very much the focus of the story.
Ordinarily I do not rant about what I was thinking when I wrote a story. But it’s nervewracking writing stories that feature very popular characters; Elrond is popular in most of the LOTR fandom, and Maedhros is very popular amongst Silmfic authors. (Hi, Silmfic authors!) On the Silmfics discussion list, there was recently a long thread in which many posters were trying to make the actions of the Sons of Feanor, following their oath towards the end of the First Age, make sense. My take is a little different; if they weren’t making so much sense towards the end there, maybe it was because they were a little crazy. In canon, Maglor seems to have more of a grip on reality overall; it’s Maedhros who keeps pushing the deadly Oath forwards. I pictured Maedhros as a Fearless Leader type – the sort whose followers realize that their charismatic, convincing leader is not entirely sane all too late. I pictured a long, slow, gradual slide into his own particular skewed logic after the disaster of the Nirnaeth Aenoridad. I pictured…well, it’s in the two stories so I’ll shut up now.
The T-shirt redesign is still in progress. Apologies for the delay!
